What you’ll do Implement, optimize and test Machine Learning inference engines that run on Sonos products, based on neural networks, signal processing, finite state transducers, etc. We’re currently looking for an embedded machine learning engineer to join our Machine Learning Inference team within SVE and help us build the software backbone, running on Sonos products, required to deliver a production-grade Voice Experience to Sonos customers. To bring this feature to life and to improve it continuously, the team brings together an interdisciplinary group of software engineers (embedded, backend, frontend, quality assurance) and linguists in addition to signal processing and machine learning scientists. The development of Sonos Voice Control is made by our voice experience (SVE). It was launched in the US in June 2022 and in France in December 2022. Sonos Voice Control is a voice interface for Sonos users to control their music and their Sonos system, placing privacy at the heart of its design. This is why we have developed Sonos Voice Control. One of the most natural ways to connect to your music is with your voice, yet many customers are choosing not to activate or use voice services, mainly due to privacy concerns and failure to meet expectations for accuracy, speed, and ease of use. Despite being an intern, I’ve been treated with complete respect from everyone I’ve worked with and it’s really increased my confidence in my skills. I knew that I liked the product and that I would enjoy working in iOS, but in addition to that, I’ve also gained a lot of appreciation for the company culture. Initially, I was nervous that I wouldn’t get as much out of it because it had been moved online, but I feel like I’m having a really fulfilling experience.
This internship has ended up being more than I ever expected it to be. Was this internship what you expected it to be? This gives me a better idea of how the company functions as a whole, as well as an idea of different work I would like to try in the future. I’ve gotten to learn about so many different aspects of the company and seen the work that other people in the company do as well. I feel like my internship hasn’t simply been limited to just my project or my team. I think the most rewarding part of my internship is that I get to work with so many different people while learning a lot of new programs. What is most rewarding about your internship? I felt like the position I was applying for was different than anything I’d ever done before, so I was excited at the possibility of learning something new. I’ve always been interested in Sonos as a company, and I knew I wanted to work in the entertainment/tech industry. I’m automating tests for the iOS app that is used to control the speakers.
